Privacy policy
Last updated: October 2026
This policy explains what information MotorTools may process when you visit www.motortools.co.uk.
Who we are
MotorTools is an independent UK motoring information website. For privacy questions contact thederpywhale@hotmail.com.
What we collect
- Usage and device data — such as pages visited, approximate location derived from IP, browser type and referral source. This may be collected through hosting and analytics providers.
- Emails you send us — if you contact thederpywhale@hotmail.com, we receive the address and message content you provide.
- Tool inputs — calculators run in your browser. We do not need a registration plate or personal details to browse car pages and guides.
We do not sell personal data. We do not ask you to create an account to use the main site.
Cookies and analytics
The site may use essential cookies required for security and hosting, plus analytics cookies or similar technologies to understand which pages are useful. That includes Google Analytics (measurement ID G-PVHKY547V0). Analytics data is typically aggregated and used to improve content. Google may process data outside the UK/EEA under its own terms — see Google’s privacy policy for details.
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect site features.
Embedded content
Some pages embed third-party content such as YouTube videos. Those services may set their own cookies or collect data according to their policies when you play or load the embed. We prefer privacy-enhanced YouTube embeds where practical.
Legal bases (UK GDPR)
Where UK data protection law applies, we rely on:
- Legitimate interests — running and improving a free information website
- Consent — where required for non-essential cookies or analytics
- Contract / steps you request — when you email us and we reply
How long we keep information
Server logs and analytics are kept only as long as needed for security, debugging and improvement, subject to our hosting providers’ retention settings. Emails are kept as long as needed to handle your request, then deleted or archived according to ordinary inbox practice.
Your rights
Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict certain personal data, and to object to processing based on legitimate interests. Contact thederpywhale@hotmail.com. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
Children
The site is aimed at adults interested in car ownership and maintenance. We do not knowingly collect children’s personal data.
Changes
We may update this policy as the site changes. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the site after updates means you should review this page periodically.
